For my kind
American relatives!
Finally I found a
noble coat of arms of the GROPPI! They are probably only unreliable
reconstructions, as it is now certain that the "Groppi" take their
surname from Monte Groppo which is located near the city of Parma. They were
said to be regarded as "the fools" of that region. We also have near
Castelnuovo, about 15 kilometers away, another small ancient village of less
than 2000 inhabitants: Montieri, in the province of Grosseto. And the
"stories" of the montierini are passed in literature and history, including
in Europe, where there are about 10 other "stupid" villages! Think
that one of the most common surnames in Montieri is "Lombardi", that
is the name derived from the Lombards, who came to these places to cultivate
silver and iron mines, in the seventh century after Christ.
You must know that
the Italian language was born in a very small quadrilateral which has the
summits in Volterra, Travale, Montieri and Massa Marittima (within which
Castelnuovo is located)!
Well, even the
"stupid" mountain dwellers who came down to the city of Parma for the
market, were apostrophized by the citizens "here, the Groppi have
arrived!" as if to say that the stupid had arrived! Now many people with
the surname Groppi are located right in Northern Italy. In Parma there is also
a city street called "Via Groppi"! Another Groppi must have made a
fortune in Egypt, so much so that in Cairo there is the most famous coffee in
that city with the name "Caffè Groppi", written in Arabic!
In short, we have
at least one emblem! A kiss to all my American relatives (especially the
beautiful women and girls)! Carlo.
